The Department of Heavy Industry and the department of public enterprises acts as a nodal agency for all Public Sector Enterprises (PSE's). The role of policy formulation and administration of these PSE’s is look after by these departments and also looks after the investment of the Government in Maruti Udyog Ltd.. These enterprises operate in diverse fields ranging from sophisticated engineering sectors to consumer goods and offer a wide variety of products. The department encourages restructuring of these companies, formation of joint ventures and formulation of revival packages under BIFR.
