Sports Goods Export Promotion Council (SGEPC) The Sports Goods Export Promotion Council (SGEPC) is the primary agency devoted to the promotion of exports of Indian goods sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce. It has under its banner all the leading manufacturers and exporters of sports goods for all disciplines.The Council has created an awareness among Indian sports goods industry of the latest trading conditions, demand patterns and consumer preferences the world over. Exports have shown a substantial rise and are poised to reach higher heights of growth in the years to come.
The Indian sports goods industry is essentially in the small scale sector. Major production centres are located in and around Jalandhar, Meerut, Calcutta, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. There are around 4000 units belonging to this industry which offer employment to the weaker sections of the society. The industry is oriented towards exports with over 60% of its production being exported to overseas markets. The advantage that India has is the availability of cheap labour and natural raw materials.
To promote the export of sports goods from India by way of performing the following major functions:To provide commercially useful information and assistance to their members in developing and increasing their exports.
To offer professional advice to their members in areas such as technology upgradation, quality and design improvement, standards and specifications, product development, innovations etc.
To organise visits of delegations, Sales-cum-Study teams of its members abroad to explore overseas market opportunities.
To organise participation in specialised International sporting goods trade fairs, exhibitions and buyers-seller meets in India and abroad.
To promote interaction between the exporting community and the Government both at the Central and State levels.
To build a statistical base and provide data on the Exports and Imports of the Country, exports and imports of it's members and other relevant International trade data.
