Eximkey - India Export Import Policy 2004 2013 Exim Policy

(i) Section 13(2) of FERA 1973 prohibits the taking or sending out of India, Indian currency notes and coins without general or special permission of Reserve Bank. The following general permissions have been granted by Reserve Bank, through its Notifications, for taking out Indian currency notes and coins.

To Nepal Indian currency notes of denominations up to Rs.100 and Indian coins by any person without limit.

To countries other than Nepal Indian currency notes and coins not exceeding Rs.1000 per person by any resident Indian proceeding abroad on a temporary visit.


(ii) Reserve Bank has also granted general permission to any person vide its Notification No. FERA.156/93-RB dated 4th November 1993 to take or send out of India currency in the form of commemorative coins up to two coins each of Rs.50 and Rs.10 denomination.

(iii) Indian currency exported or attempted to be exported except within the terms of the general or special permission granted by Reserve Bank is liable to be confiscated and offenders are also liable to punishment.
