Clearance of cargo

It has come to notice that large number of assessed Bs/E are lying with the CHAs for payment of duty and in many such cases the reason for non payment of duty is on account of non – arrival of the cargo. The CHAs and others are hereby informed that they should pay duty on all assessed Bs/E even where the cargo has not yet arrived and that in the event of cargo not arriving by a particular vessel, clearance of such cargo arriving by another vessel shall be allowed against the duty paid B/E after making necessary amendments subject to the condition that revenue is not prejudicially affected due to tariff changes. The CHAs and others should, therefore, pay the duty on all assessed Bs/E in March 2000 itself to help the department to mobilise revenue due to the Government before the end of current financial year 1999-2000.
