Sub : FEEDING OF BRAND NAME, UNIFORM QUANTITY CODE ETC., EDI BILLS OF ENTRY – REG.

It has been observed that while feeding the Bills of Entry in EDI System, the details of brand name, make, model etc., are not properly stated in the respective columns alongwith the description. Consequently the available data is incomplete for the purpose of comparing the values of similar identical goods. It is also observed that the quantities are not uniformly declared and therefore the data cannot be used in a meaningful manner by the assessing officer.

2. In view of the above, for proper data entry an Examiner is being earmarked to facilitate the same. The examiner will be located in the Service Center on 2nd floor, Annexe Bldg, New customs House, Mumbai. The E.O. will be checking information for filinf the Bills of Entry as to whether description, make, model, brand name, quantity, code etc. are correctly stated by the importers/CHA’s at the time of noting/ submission of Bill of Entry.

3. The CHA’s /Importers are also requested to ensure that in the Invoice/Packing list and related documents they clearly identify the make, model, brand name, quantity etc., so that the same are shown correctly at the time of submission of Bills of Entry and if required the same are also corrected in the check list before final submission.

4. The Examiner will be available with effect from 16.08.2002. All CHA’s / Importers are requested to utilize the services of the officer in order to make appropriate corrections. The officer would be available upto 30th Sept and based on the experience further continuation will be considered.

5. The Appraising Officers and Dy. Commissioner at the time of assessment/examination will also be ensuring that the details of brand name, model quantity etc., are correctly reflected in the Bills of Entry. In case additional features are identified during examination same would also be suitably recorded for ease of reference for Valuation Data purposes.
