Sub : Bottle Sealing of Import containers at Gateway Port – Reg.

Attention of all Shipping Agents/Importers/CHAs/Transporter and all concerned is invited on the above subject:

In accordance with the amendment made by Central Board of Excise and Custom vide notification No.59/2000 to the “Goods Imported (Conditions of transshipment) Regulation 1995 now called as “Goods Imported (conditions of transshipment) Amendment Regulation 2000 the following procedure is to be followed for dispatch of import containers from Gateway Port to ICD/CES/Port by rail/motor vehicle/vessel.

1. In the case of containers which has been sealed by on time bottle seal by shipping lines or their agents and the Customs have been informed of the serial No. of such seal, such containers shall not be required to be sealed by the Customs as required under clause (a) OF CLAUSE (B) OF regulation (6) Goods imported (conditions of Transhipment) Regulations 1995 at the Gateway Port prior to their dispatch to ICDs/CFSs/Ports by Rail/Motors Vehicle/vessel.

2. The shipping lines or their agents should ensure that the serial number of the seals affixed is informed to the Customs Section Office. Endorsement regarding verification of the seal, for containers to be moved by road i.e. motor vehicle has to be taken from the Gate officer and for containers to be move by rail/vessels is to be taken from the section Boarding Officer prior to dispatch of such containers.

The above procedure is to be implemented with immediate effect and all concerned are directed to comply with procedure prescribed above.

Difficulties if any, may be brought to the notice of the undersigned.
