PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 128/2002

Sub : Marking on Packages brought for export – reg.

It has been noticed that export consignments are brought to export sheds by the exporters/CHAs for export without proper marking on the packages, which creates difficulties in undertaking examination of the cargo while at the same time, increasing the possibilities of manipulations, fraud, mis-representation and substitution of goods. In the recent past, several such cases of attempted fraudulent exports by manipulating markings on the packages have been detected.

2. To obviate the above, the following requirements of marking of packages shall be fulfilled :-

    (i) All the packages brought for export should be stencil marked. Hand written marking and paper stickers etc. on packages shall not be accepted. In case of packing in bales where stencil markings is not possible, markings can be made on the cloth which is then properly stiched on to the bales. However, goods like tyres, tubes, etc. which cannot be stencil marked or with cloth stiched marked shall be exempt from the marking requirements mentioned above.

(ii) No examination of cargo shall be undertaken unless goods are properly marked in the manner as mentioned at (i) above.

3. These instructions come into effect with immediate effect.
