Instances have come of notice that the employee of Custom House Agent who have been issued with valid Custom Passes by this department, are displaying the xerox copies of the said Custom Passes under the pretext that the original customs pass may get lost. Since the colour xerox copies of the said of identity cards/custom passes look similar to the original one, these could be mis-used.
The Custom House Agents and their employees are hereby directed to display the original identity card/custom pass while transacting the CHA business in all the Customs stations.
All departments of the Mumbai Customs Commissionerate, Zona-I, II & III are therefore requested to ensure that exporter/importer and employer/employee of Custom House Agents, who do not possess valid Custom Passes (original) issued by this department are not allowed to transact business in the Customs station. It should specifically be ensured that no exporter/importer and employer/employee of Custom House Agents are allowed to transact business in the Custom Station on the basis of the copy of acknowledgement of this department showing receipt of request for issue of Custom Passes.
Further, the importer/exporter/Custom House Agents are also directed to ensure that while surrendering the Custom pass for cancellation of the concerned person, the original customs pass issued by the department should be surrendered to the department.
It may be noted that the failure on the part of the Importer /Exporter and employer/employers of Custom House Agents to comply with the aforesaid directions/instructions will be viewed seriously.
This issues with the approval of Commissioner of Customs (Gen).
